Company should get closed down to be honest over scamming people the delay altacrics they use when you trying to cancel is unreal . Then set me up for direct debit for every two weeks even though it's monthly contract . Some weirds excuse given . Seriously now reporting company and the agents to citizens advice and ombudsman and who ever I can. The reviews seem to sum this company up it up everyone nearly got the same problems . 1 star is to high should be zero . The gym people are fine it's just the company agents
After 16 months membership I cancelled my membership but was going to rejoin in a few months time but needed some time out due to personal reasons, I gave notice that they denied even through I sent a second email to say I had not heard back from them and was now cancelling my direct debit, long story short | got an extra £20 added plus a further threat of £20 6g
all in a week of cancellation
of direct debit, could not contact them as weekend and bank holiday and I explained I was away abroad and would ring when back home, I rang them and ended up paying £40
as they just would not except any blame, this company just want your money, they will not ring you just constantly send out emails and deny receiving any cancellation notice from you, avoid if you can this money making company with no customer care, such a shame as it can give a brilliant leisure centre a bad name .
I would give less than 1 if I could. I am continuously receiving e.mails requesting payment for a membership that was never used and cancelled within a week of joining. This cancellation was not processed correctly by the leisure centre. Despite the leisure centre assuring me that it was their mistake and wiping any debt- I am still receiving threatening e.mails requesting payment. This has been explained several times- yet I am still receiving the same generic replies.

Disgusting vultures who are now trying to gain more money out of me after cancelling my membership at Towcester Leisure centre. I was only on rolling monthly membership and notified them weeks in advance. Now I am literally paying extra for a service I cannot use. Avoid any leisure centre that uses this company

Appalling. I was rolled into this Parkwood contract from the previous owner 1Life. The cancellation went from one month notice over to a full calendar month. I never signed upto this and was not made aware of contractual changes, any major contract changes should have been communicated directly and not hidden in the new contract data. They clearly did not want to share information with existing members. I have been at the gym for 9 years, when they were struggling through Covid we all collectively agreed to pay for the staff through this period in support. When they recently refurbished the gym, we all paid, in full while it was closed for an extended period. I and others have shown support and loyalty which means absolutely nothing to them. I wanted to close the membership and rejoin in a new location. Well you have guessed it. I am done with this disgraceful outfit. I have already told many members of the contract change slipped into terms and data, this is the same contract that has now had 3 price increases despite me being told that my contract is one of the original contracts which will never change and the price is set for life. Let’s just say me and others are not happy.
Obviously with another new gym recently opening in the area will absolutely mean change for many, considering it’s a 3rd of the price for far greater equipment, location and cost. I am telling as many people as possible in my six week cancellation period, I won’t even workout, I will just slate this gym and recommend the new gym as alternative. let’s not waste this time but instead be productive In going out of my way to cause as much damage and distress, legally to this business as possible. They will already see that 3 long term members have already cancelled, there will be many more. I will never use Parkwood again, they are a terrible company.
Look at their reviews, it’s all about them trying to be smart by managing a contract for gain. Who actually thinks this is smart business sense, threatening legal action over £35 in one review, who writes this on trust pilot review, normal people have a sensible conversation. It just shows how poor this business actually is and the kind of staff they employ. I would instantly cancel the contract of the member of staff who is making these decisions, that’s the only contract that needs management Avoid….
Joined under the "try it" gym promotion, but one-month notice wasn't disclosed upfront. "Full calendar month" rule prevents genuine one-month trial, joining mid-month commits you to extra payments. Collections team ignored concerns. Avoid if seeking short-term access - feels like a trap.

I would give less than one star if possible. The actual gym and staff were great. What has ruined the experience for me was my attempts to cancel my membership several months after a life changing injury and then being contacted months later to find that mine details have been passed onto an outside agency to collect ‘the debt’. GDPR!! I had in fact cancelled several months before this notice via their contact form. Whilst a member I had not been able to book any classes using the app and was told by staff at Penzance leisure centre that this ‘blip’ was a systems issue common to many members and they tried to sort it out for me twice, it didn’t work and then the reception team put my name and email on a written piece of paper which they said that they were holding for when the ‘blip’ was fixed. Now I find buried in my emails whilst ill - an email from the Parkwood cancellation team bouncing back my cancellation email which they responded to on 4th October saying they didn’t recognise my email so we’re unable to cancel my membership - the same email that they have been contacting me on to ‘demand’ continued payment. After explaining this to them again. I received on email from someone called Catherine (a bot?) saying although she’d like to waive the ‘debt’ she was outside Parkwood and collection so couldn’t …but had now cancelled my membership - this is chaos!!!!!and has been extremely stressful for me at a time when I am recovering from major illlness . I rarely write reviews and never a negative one before but - do not become ensnared in their system - even though the staff at Penzance leisure centre are lovely this organisational membership system is a nightmare if you sign up to it.

Cancelled Direct Debit for membership at one of their centres and then charged £21 late fee for being a day late to call them with one-off payment. They didn't try calling me once. Even the banks have caught on that this is a terrible way to treat customers and stopped these practices and yet Parkwood still think it's acceptable. Will never rejoin one of their centres and so £21 has cost them a customer for life.

Firstly I want to say the centers in general are a good community place however the head office that deals with memberships have never even been satisfactory the head office do not abde by their own terms and conditions very poor. I’m not sure it’s actually worth the hassle

Reported a damaged door housing the bins in the ladies changing room on 23/7. The door fell onto my foot causing painful bruising. Reported the incident more than once yet no-one even made a note in an accident book. The manager was unavailable throughout the weekend. Had to chase for a response more than once. Now being the 16/8, the door has still not been fixed and there is no warning sign to confirm that it is out of order. They just don't seem to care about the fee paying customer. There is a complete lack of care and due diligence, and no regard for health and safety regs despite adults and children using the changing room facilities. The risk of a similar incident is still there yet they don't seem at all bothered.

I have been a member for over 2 years. I train 5 times a week at a parkwood leisure gym, and I train a football team on the astro once per week.
I will be cancelling my membership today, and we are pulling our football team from the location all because of how Jerome has treated my wife who wanted to cancel her membership.
My wife has been diagnosed with a chronic condition, in her early 30s, and is unable to attend the gym. She cancelled her direct debit, thinking that is all that had to be done. Jermone now wants her to pay £56 despite her paying monthly all along, and her having not stepped foot in the door of the gym in at least three months. The Gym Group allow cancellation via cancelling the direct debit, so this was an honest mistake.
Jermones demeanor is representative of Parkwood Leisure. The business currently sits on 2.8 stars on trustpilot, far below Gym Group (3.8) and Pure Gym (3.9). This is representative of the gyms.
The Victoria Park (Ilkeston) gym changing rooms are covered in mold. The Rutland Park (Ilkeston) changing rooms are covered in mold (and have been for the duration of the two years I have been a member), the water machine has been broken with over 3 weeks, and one of the cable machines has been broken with over 4 weeks.
The West Park (Long Eaton) changing rooms are covered in mold, and have been for the duration of the two years I have been a member.
Jerome, Parkland Leisure, and all three of the Parkland Leisure Gyms are ambassadors of low quality service. Avoid at all costs.

Really upset with the staff the manager is really cheeky and told me I can get a 3 day trial and it says on Google your allowed to so I think there all about the money

I've been a member of the leisure centre for around seven years. I've always found the staff friendly and welcoming (nothing too much trouble). Though not availing myself of the many classes on offer, the feedback I get from other members is always positive. The facilities I use are more than adequate for my needs. The gym is kept clean not only by the designated cleaner, who does a great job), but also by the staff themselves. Equipment in the gym is quite comprehensive and well maintained. Always look forward to my daily sessions. And if a little tired or lethargic other members always offer a bit of encouragement. Can highly recommend a visit if not a membership.

My review relates to experience of Parkwood Crosby Leisure Centre - superb, have been a swim member since 2022 - staff are friendly, helpful and the pool is a joy. Membership is very reasonable at £26, the fees and communication are clear...very happy!

I'm really surprised to read the bad reviews, as I've only ever had good experiences at our Leisure Centre which is part of the Parkwood company. fee structures are clear, there is an option of pause the subsscription for 2 -3 months with a small monthly retainer, and in our leisure centre, the staff are fantastic, friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and the facilties always clean.

I love spending time at the Leisure Centre because the staff make everything safe and enjoyable. They are friendly and give amazing advise. I spend more time there now and my health has improved no end.

I’ve been a subscriber for at least 8 YEARS and paid every month. I am in a difficult situation and asked to cancel, they refused and slapped me with a late fee. AWFUL company AVOID.

Disgraceful company!
I Cancelled my DD in less than 10minutes and I am able to a refund which has never occurred since 14 of March 2025.
I have escalated this to authorities whom should deal with, and according with my advice I am also able to charge this company including my phone calls and my time too.
Try to discuss with their customer service team (based in their head office as they are part of a bigger company) and they just quote terms and conditions and are sarcastic and reading from a script.
Clearly don’t value their reputation or customers. Would recommend supporting other local independent gyms and save yourselves the hassle of dealing with them.
Don’t deserve to be in business as clearly here to rinse everyone for their cash.
WHERE IS MY REFUND !!!
