Almost Immoral company

I signed up for a 6 month contract in September, which we were told we couldn’t cancel during, we also were told that the 3 month cancellation period only applied within those 6 months (by the guy at the desk). However fast forward to March 2022 and I have just had a very serious surgery, unable to use the gym I have tried to cancel but been met with heavy resistance from the staff. I have been told I need a doctors note, however upon calling my doctor I have learned they no longer do notes of this type for the gym. To make matters worse being a student money is tight and when my payment bounced, the good people of sports direct decided to add on not 1 but 2 £10.00 extra fees for some reason. The company is immoral and I’m not sure how they still get customers ( maybe that explains why they cling onto existing ones like leeches ) but definitely AVOID THIS COMPANY and all involved. Mike Ashley is a crook and belongs in prison. Save yourself the time and money, just go to Pure Gym or The Gym Group. Companies with your best interests at heart.

You'd be better giving your money to a Nigerian Prince

Oh I wish I had looked at the reviews before signing up.

I signed up Aug 2021 on a no contract, pay monthly deal. My circumstances changed shortly after joining. I had to become a carer for my dad who was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer.

I wasn't able to use the gym as I had hoped, so I cancelled in February 22. I was one of the lucky ones who received an email confirming my cancellation, however I was surprised to see that I will be charged monthly until May.

I had not even used the gym due to my circumstances, and so they've made a tidy sum from me. I have no idea why they are charging me until May. It is disgusting how they take advantage of their users.

We should really take our complaints higher. If we all complained to their governing body, then they would not be able to get away with this abusive practice.

Their CEO's and upper management are getting paid fat bonuses from charging us hidden fees. This is England right? These business practices make me feel like I'm in a third world country.

A completely unethical

A completely unethical, cheap and nasty company. The fee is low and gym I used is therefore very basic. However, the problem is "how to cancel". Both my wife and I have been swindled out of £100's... we canceled after the first lockdown at the gym, were told that's all we needed to do... then find they re-started the fees. Tried to call them... they don't answer. I am now trying to get my money back... but how much time can I sink into this!!!

Awful!

Awful. Paid for 6 months membership, given notice to cancel but no correspondence received until I cancelled direct debit and they’ve now added fees and demanding I oh ‘the debt’. Currently in a dispute via resolver and customer service are less than useless so far. Avoid avoid avoid

AVOID. Do not join this gym!

AVOID!

Shocking is an understatement. How is it legal to hold people to ransom?

Member since Feb 2017 I had not used the facilities of the gym since Covid hit in March 2020. Roll onto October 2021 when I have moved out if the area and I send a cancellation request. I receive confirmation that I will still have to pay the rest of my contract until
Feb 2022 . I question and try to contact with no response. Finally I get a response when I send a message stating that I have cancelled my direct debit, then I'm offered if I have sent proof it would be £10 cancellation costs but it's now too late. Why wasn't I offered that in October.?

I will never shop or attend any gym or premises owned by the Fraser group :

Absolutely appalling

Absolutely appalling. Wish I had checked this feedback before I paid my monthly subscription. Staff was all nice to me the day I joined yet the next day I was just another person in the back ground. No one told me I need a padlock for a locker. Previous I had told them I have quite bad anxiety especially when dealing with new things. I clocked in & few mins later clocked out I did not like it at all, got as far as changing rooms & was not made to feel welcome. On leaving the premises a few mins later I didn’t understand which door to exit or how I should exit this is only because I hadn’t been before nether the less all the staff was bothered about was sitting & glued to their mobile phones. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PLACE

Cheltenham SD Fitness is v. good and a bargain.

Cheltenham gym (Formerly LA Fitness) I like it. There is a wide range of machines and free weights; the staff are pleasant; it is clean, with plenty of provision for Covid wipes etc.; good pool; rarely overcrowded; easy parking. OK, the steam room has suffered repeatedly from technical problems, but the sauna (Dec 21) has just been well refurbed and both facilities are in operation. Cons: the jacuzzi is only luke warm and I am no fan of loud techno noise, so earbuds are a must. For the price, though, it is unbeatable.

Sports Direct Everlast Fitness Gym

Sports Direct Everlast Fitness Gym, Kettering:-
This gym was re-fitted with Everlast equipement in the first lock-down. I high-lited to the management bits of equipment that hadn't been assembled properly and how they should check all of it. Particular safety features on some apparatus wore quickly due to poor commisioning.
They have not maintained it it and I would say 3 machines (that I use) have defects I would consider refering to H&S as verging on dangerous - even though SD's H&S say it's not.
You can invariably be sure one of the spa-pool facilities is defective or not working - for months on end!
Their attitude seems to be that you're only paying £20/mnth for all facilities BUT I am paying the asked price for sound facilities that are on offer NOT in the expectation that always something is defective/dangerous/inoperative!
If there was another facility within 10 miles with the facilities OFFERED here and not at an extortionate price I'd be gone in a shot!

I'm not the only long term member with these views either, just no-one else speaks out.

Bad quality, expensive gyms

I thought I'd try this brand of gym for a month to see if it was better than my regular gym. To be short it was old, dingy and expensive. The squat racks were too low, the ceilings were too low to do shoulder presses and there were no resistance bands.

To top it all off, I was charged for this month after I had cancelled. After requesting a refund for the month, I was told it's not possible; despite being told I could by gym staff and never using it this month. Now I've paid at another gym and can't get my money back here. AVOID.

Vile company

Not that anyone will be surprised, given they have a 4 month notice period for cancelling your membership. They say it's only 3 months, but any day after the 1st of every month makes it 4 months for some unknown reason that they can't explain. Disgusting customer service, vile company.

In mirroring others views

In mirroring others views - this company are absolutely disgusting. Avoid at all costs!! I was a member for 8 years and only used the fitness centre in Sale for swimming. However, due to the pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi being constantly out of use, I finally switched to a far better competitor. I believed I had a 1 month rolling contract with Sports Direct but they insisted on me paying 3 months and as I'd cancelled my direct debit - they charged me an extra £20. The staff in Sale are lovely and it's not their fault - it's just a shame that they work for such an aggressive 1970's style shark of a company. However, it doesn't surprise me when you look at the owners. I'll never set foot in the place again and would rather swim in a sewer than give that lot my money.

Absolutely disgusting company

Absolutely disgusting company. Been with signed up to this gym for over nearly3 years. Went once. Could never get on classes. Then lockdown happened. I had covid and haven’t been able to exercise. Rang and cancelled my membership about 8 weeks. Ago. 3 weeks ago I cancelled my direct debit. Now they been in touch and give late payment charge of £10 plus my monthly fee. Called the gym and was told there is a 6months cancellation . I explained what had happened and told they would look into call. Basically accusing me of lying. Not heard anything back in a week so went in today. Then told it was a 3month cancellation. Again explained. Just got a call back again asking what number I called on as they couldn’t find it. I explained yet again it could of been my mobile or work number. But work would be withheld. Now have to go back in and set the direct debit up pay the late payment and then pay for the next 3 months. It’s there mistake. 3 different people have said 3 different things Yet I am being penalised financially. Wouldn’t mind as much but they have had 3 years of money for not even using there gym.
Do not use this company!

Awful experience cancelling membership. Do NOT join this gym!

Cancelled my gym membership through the correct process. Received confirmation that membership and last payment was May 2021. SportsDirectFitness continued taking payment in June and July. I contacted them and received an email saying that it was an error and I was due a refund of £66. But they cannot refund through BACS, so gave me written advice to cancel direct debit and request refund through my bank. Bank refunded money in July.
All ok, until I received a formal letter Oct 2021, that payment should not have been refunded and direct debits should have continued. And that I had to pay £66 plus £10 admin fee within 10 days of they would take it further.
I have sent the original emails from them highlighting last payment date, cancellation of membership, their apology and advice to obtain refund. No reply.
I then telephoned them and was told that it was actually the bank had taken the refund twice. I checked my online statements (during phone call) explaining only one payment was refunded. I was then told I had to pursue this with my bank to tell them to repay the refund. I contacted my bank who confirmed that only one refund was paid - and not two.
My advice, avoid this company and gym and find a more caring company with a better customer service.
Truly awful experience with them and have wasted so much time for £66. And I think that's what they are hoping for, that you end up paying the monies.

Bought my grandson Skechers trainers…

Bought my grandson Skechers trainers and they have a piece metal sticking out of the heel. Was told he was wearing them incorrectly. He has had a few pairs of Skechers trainers and all others have been great. They were only 3 weeks old. Assume they are selling seconds now. Emailed their customer service but no response. Shocking company, avoid at all costs

Horrible customer service.

I ordered a jacket and after washing it as the label said, the jacket Adidas logo and other stickers detach. I went to Guildford sports direct and the supervisor number 419631 & the staff number 388473 did not helped at all. They said as I got it online I need to deal online, this was with their mask under in their chin and looking each other rolling their eyes. When I left, I wait outside and I did hear them saying racist and rude comments about me. Definitely a horrible experience in this shop. I will never buy here again. I hope this gets to the manager as in my opinion is inacceptable.

DISTINCT LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!

Our local gym was run down and shabby and when COVID hit I wanted to cancel my membership. I couldn't get hold of anyone to cancel it so had to settle for freezing it instead. When the gyms finally did reopen I managed to cancel my membership but noticed that they had still been taking money out of my account. I didn't want to risk being punished for cancelling my direct debit so tried again to cancel but got no response. I have had no option but to cancel the direct debit to save them taking any more money for a service that I have made clear that I do not want! Doubt I will see the last 4 months payments that have been taken again 😠
