Avoid Ilok at all costs.
Avoid this at all cost it is complete trash.
I just uninstall Ilok it is useless and very out dated.
so so bad
so so bad. Just terrible. nothing you could want less from a programme based around story and successfully reopening projects. really below awful, and they don't care
Futile, invasive, privacy-disrespecting mess
Invasive software to help with licences installed with Pro-Audio software. System resource hog, disrespects privacy and worst of all doesn't even prevent piracy. Pirates will always crack software, so iLok's existence is utterly futile. I have recently uninstalled out of principle and asked all plug-in companies whose software I owned to delete my accounts and licences. I will never, ever, buy any software that uses this awful system ever again.
Should not exist.
Shameful, worst audio company ever. Headaches on headaches trying to get support which is impossible to get. The site stinks of late 90s, with support options that are non-existing. Site tells me:
The steps to request a machine activation reset within iLok License Manager are:
Launch and sign into iLok License Manager with your iLok account
On the left side of the application, select the machine location that has become inaccessible (it should be grayed out)
Select the “Show Details” button to open that location’s details
Select the “Report as Unusable” link
And the desktop app has no "Report as Unusable" Link whatsoever. I seriously wish this company either to get at least at a base level of decency or to just stop existing and scamming people.
Shouldn't be legal
Shouldn't be legal to make me purchase a 100 dollar plugin and not being able to use it because of iLok not allowing me to activate a missing plugin.
Honestly why does this Ilok crap exist
Honestly why does this crap exist? I have wasted countless hours of my life on this completely useless software. Akai have a lot to answer for having anything to so with Ilok and will surly loose thousands of customers I would never in a million years recommend this crap to anybody.
Just terrible...
Just terrible...
It feels impossible to use. I think I have PTSD from trying to activate my licences. When you spend hundreds of pounds on plugins you shouldn't have to deal with this utterly shocking system.
you cant even describe how wrong this…
you cant even describe how wrong this product is. starting with the extremely buggy interface at the sign-up page, which does not really work, with prompts that will keep you from proceeding. ilok stops you from using other products which is just sad. i hope every company that uses this product shifts at one point to something more user-friendly
Discovered AFTER I bought sofware from…
Discovered AFTER I bought sofware from Vienna Symphonic Library that I had to use a PHYSICAL doodle hanging off my computer?!? As if the extra bloatware install wasn't bad enough, but now I have to be humiliated with 1996-style physical device touting out on my Laptop? Who would ever in their life waste hours trying to understand the logic behind this trashy company policy? Why would any hard-working company be willing to DESTROY their customer base with this trash?! If anyone has products using iLok: you NEED to write: "WARNING YOU WILL NEED A PHYSICAL DOODLE TO HANG FROM YOUR COMPUTER IF YOU BUY THIS SOFTWARE". I just wasted 150 euros , but I will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER buy anything associated with iLok again. And I will NEVER even use the software I already wasted money on because of this physical s#it I need to dangle from my computer. Pure, clean trash. So frustrated right now.
A terrible system
A terrible system, that constantly gives issues and with a not very attentive customer service.
I am staying away from any plugin that uses them as I cannot be bothered to have to re authorize / re install / re do things every month.
Worst customer service ever I don’t…
Worst customer service ever I don’t even want to elaborate all they do is cost me time and money if you have a problem with your ILok i suggest just go to Guitar Center buy one for 50 bucks and transfer the licensing to it and forget calling these guys. Oh never mind they don’t even have a phone number
I was amazed at the great service I received...
I know, there are tons of negative reviews out there and I was assuming I would be one of them. But my experience was extremely positive!
Once I finally figured out that my old iLOK (over ten years old) was the culprit, I went to iLOK>Support and opened an>RMA. As I understood it, I would purchase a NEW, updated iLOK and eventually have all my licenses from my defunct iLOK retrieved and then sent to me via Email, after iLOK receiving the old one. I sent my old one back on 2 day shipping. Within 24 hours I received the NEW iLOK in the mail!
I was amazed that all of my concerns, fears and questions were addressed in a very timely manner, most responses within 5-6 hours. Once I received receipt of payment for my new iLOK-and shipping charges, I received clear, simple instructions on how to load those old licenses to my new iLOK. I was prepared to journey down a rabbit hole and tear my hair out, but I did not have to. I plugged in the new iLOK, signed in and dragged 'available' licenses to my new iLOK, opened up Pro Tools and picked up where I left off just two days prior.
That is my honest experience. I remain very impressed with the customer service I received. Yes, I would prefer not to deal with a license holding device, but I enjoy producing music on the software I know and that's how it works.
Thanks iLOK!
crappy customer service
I am needing to use iLok to access some printing software, and iLok's system fails to send me a confirmation for my account (despite many tries, and no, it did not go to my spam folder!), so I am completely blocked from even trying a trial version of the software I need. iLok does not list an email address, a phone number, or a chat function, so now I have to wait around for a ticket to get to someone who might help me. Ultimately this is probably going to force me to go find someone else with similar printer software, so the company who has chosen to use iLok will lose my business. I don't have time for this s#it.
"Online Access Unavailable" "Service Temporarily Unavailable" for two weeks so far
I've used iLok machine authorization for seven years, accumulated about 166 licenses. All of a sudden on 3/21/22, iLok License Manager cannot log me in. Now It's been saying "Online Access Unavailable" for the last two weeks. iLok support has consistently answered my emails and made comments and suggestions, BUT .....I'm not one inch closer to resolving the problem ... Maybe 1/4" closer, I don't know. It looks like I will have to HIRE a local guru to figure out how to get my computer to connect to iLok servers so I can use iLok License Manager again.
Bad software
Bad software. Should be kept out of use or away from companies using it or recommending
iLok is an unneccesary scam
I purchased software that required iLok. I ordered the insanely overpriced USB device, registered the software to the device, then it stopped working one minute later. They expect me to take the time to send it back to them, wait for them to verify what licenses are on the device, and pay for a replacement in the meantime. Now my access to several hundred dollars of software that I own are tied up in a broken USB drive, and my production is at the whim of iLok. This is 2021 - a physical device for maintaining software security is a joke. These guys have been criminally screwing people in the music industry, and the software developers who partner with them are equally complicit.
this is like working with Web 1.0 1994…
this is like working with Web 1.0 1994 software, awful and a headache from start to finish. I would not advise to buy any plugins that rely on ILOK, but that is entirely personal.
I just purchased Steven Slate Drums 5.5…
I just purchased Steven Slate Drums 5.5 today. I had to get a registration key from iLok.com. I can't even make an account. I do the registration. I get the email for activation link and it just sends me to a page that just keeps spinning. I thought, "maybe I'm registered?" Nope!
Absolutely terrible software
Absolutely terrible software, has caused me many problems with any products bought that has this clingon added to it. I won't buy anything that comes with i lok ever again.
Horrible horrible software to use
Horrible horrible software to use. It’s fundamentally broken and it cripples you using the product you paid for legally. I imagine companies will eventually stop using them. They cause more trouble than it’s worth. So many issues I can’t even count. Muppets..
