Before buying the car from your…

Before buying the car from your dealership, I repeatedly tried to find out what was covered by the warranty. Your salesperson couldn't give a clear answer. His response was, "Whatever happens?" Recently, the check engine light came on. Your service center, claiming they didn't have a computer, referred me to a Nissan dealership. The Nissan dealership in Perth doesn't have a computer, so I wasted my time and money on fuel and drove to Dundee. They told me an hour's work would cost 140 pounds. I returned to Perth and was told by your service center that I had to pay for it because your pseudo-warranty doesn't cover it. Reading the warranty documents, I don't see anywhere that I have to cover this cost. From my perspective, your warranty is worthless; the car was purchased several thousand pounds more expensive than from a private seller. I could have covered the repair costs at other garages for the difference. This is the last time I bought a car at the JOHN CLARK dealership and I will never recommend this dealership to anyone, but I strongly advise against it.

bad customer service

Perth mg John Clark MG Perth

My experience with John Clark MG Perth has been one of the worst I’ve ever had with any car service department.

I brought in my MG HS under warranty because of a clear and persistent knocking noise from the front right side. The issue happens every time I drive and is impossible to ignore.

Despite this, the service team claimed twice that they “couldn’t find anything”, which is extremely concerning. Even during a test drive with the manager, the noise was still clearly audible — yet instead of a proper diagnosis, I was given excuses and attempts to convince me that nothing was wrong.

What I received was not professionalism, but dismissal, lack of effort, and zero willingness to actually help.

When I insisted on taking the issue seriously, the manager raised his voice at me, which is completely unacceptable — especially considering the car is under warranty and the fault is obvious.

It genuinely feels like this service department prefers to treat the customer as the problem rather than fix the actual problem with the vehicle.

After this experience, I will not be returning to John Clark MG Perth, and I strongly advise others to think twice before trusting them with any warranty work or diagnostics.

If you expect professionalism and proper customer care — look elsewhere.

My Defender 90 X-Dynamic was involved…

My Defender 90 X-Dynamic was involved in an accident and was taken to Pentland Landrover dealers in Perth, Scotland for repairs. I selected them as they were one of the few repairers who had a specialised repair tool that would ensure a strong and robust repair could done to the rear inner wing panel.
There were also repairs done to other parts of the vehicle that had sustained lesser damage.
I talked to one of the staff who would be physically involved in the repairs and was assured the Defender would look like new.
I collected the Defender yesterday and was lost for words because post repairs it looked better than new.
The skills, dedication, care and attention by all involved in the repairs was exceptional and faultless

AWFUL Experience- Get car inspection report done Before you Buy

Firstly 1 star rating is actually more than I would be willing to give this dealership after four months of all I can describe as is hell. Secondly do not buy any vehicles without getting an inspection done by the AA/RAC or similar company first, trust me will save you Grief down the line.
My experience was that this dealership mis-sold me a Ford Puma, which I bought in Feb 25, and from week one had problems. Every time I tried to reject the car they refused.
Car faults within 3 months, scratched windscreen, noisy engine, fumes coming in to cabin from vents, major gearbox failure, poor slave cylinder, detached flexi, all of which were supposed to have been repaired!
Most recently after collecting car from a JC local dealership end July the engine failure light came on! Final straw, Inspection report, car had not been serviced as indicated by JC Motors, air filter and engine oil contaminated, catalytic converter fitted non compliant with vehicle causing engine failure. During the repair process I had to Enforce my consumer rights before the dealership took any action and even then did they not fix the car they only added a further problem. Thankfully the Finance Company granted me the vehicle rejection in September 25, however that was after months of emails and phone calls, What I went through was definitely not pleasant, very stressful and caused a lot of anxiety. PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF THE HASSLE,STRESS & DISAPPOINTMENT AND DO NOT BUY A VEHICLE FROM HERE WITHOUT AN INSPECTION BY AA ETC DONE FIRST, I WISH I HAD!

Bought car here from Mark Howie just over a year ago.
Car is still running great and as expected.

Not interested in Selling Cars

Extremely rude + hostile salesperson stormed away from a sale to go home. Very strange behaviour.

I understand being in a hurry to close the shop, but the reason you were late was because you kept me waiting for well over an hour to test drive the car after asking me to wait for 30 minutes.

Do not bother with used cars here they are not interested.

Need to improve customer service losing business

Your staff in Perth were extremely unhelpful my car had a fault and I had to wait 6weeks for an appointment. I was told if it broke down the AA could repair it at the roadside!! Eventually I got an appointment when the part I needed was ordered. I was asked to take it to the Land Rover dealership along the road. The customer service there was 5 star I had a wonderful experience and can’t praise them enough. I wouldn’t buy another car from your MG the service was appalling.

Bad experience

My experience with this company and the Jaguar we purchased. Over the last year the service experience has not been up to normal standards. We have had brake pads and discs fitted twice in 6 months due July 2023 and March 2024 to sea air corrosion. (Really). Halfords give you a two year guarantee on pads and discs even if you live by the sea!!!!! We had only done less than 40k miles as well in a 2019 vehicle.
Now the seat belt audible alarms do not work, even after it went in separately to be inspected again after a seat belt malfunction which was replaced in 2025 to be told the driver alarm will not go off in this model. Although it did prior to a service in 2024. I have checked the Jaguar site and audible seat belt alarms should work on any seat within the vehicle. So again I have been lied to and no one has been honest. I will never purchase another vehicle from this Company their customer service is appalling.

Won`t return red GLA reservation fee

On 14th January this year I paid John Clark Select in Perth a £99.00 reservation fee to hold a red Mercedes GLA for me until I received a video of the car.
A few days later the video arrived in my email inbox.
I have to say the video was excellent, and very informative, but was not of a red GLA, it was of a white GLA. Seems there was a problem with the paint on the red GLA, and I think Joe ( Meakins ) just thought the colour of the car was just a small irrelevant detail. I didn`t want a white car, so tracked down another red GLA from a large well known car dealer`s branch in England, and had it brought to their Glasgow car store, where I purchased the car and it is now parked outside my flat.
I informed Joe a day or two after the video arrived, that I didn`t want a white car, and requested the return of my reservation fee. It is now 2nd February and the money has yet to go back into my bank. Emails go unanswered, and online chat promises fail to materialise. Nice little sideline they have there, in my opinion

My experience with John Clark Perth. Sales rep Joe Meakins. Car bought: YH69YFP.

At the end of August, I was offered the automatic version of my car instead of the manual which I was happy with. I asked to see photos multiple but never received photos as the car was still to be delivered. Once the car had been delivered I was told I would get the video ASAP but never received it. I phoned the branch multiple times and was told by a number of different people that I would receive photos. I did not receive a photo or video once until I viewed the car in person.

I was told that as I was travelling to Perth by train, someone from the branch would be in touch and would collect us from the station to take us to the branch. I did not receive an offer on the day and when I phoned them there was no answer so I walked from the centre of Perth to the branch. The day of collection was also a day after I initially said due to ‘a delay with the transport’.

Upon buying the car, I was told there was only 1 key and that I would be sent the other key once it arrived at the showroom.

Once home with the car and viewing it in the dark. I noticed a taillight was out. I had to get this repaired myself.

There had been a mess up in the original deposit which went to another John Clark branch. I was told that once I sent the deposit to the Perth branch I would receive the second key.

Once received, I had to go to Ford myself and wait for the key to be coded for £152. I sent the invoice for being fixed to John Clark Perth. It took almost 3 weeks to get this £152 back after phoning the branch over 5 times I was told everytime ‘I’ll pass your message on’ and ‘someone will phone you back’. I emailed the managers Malcolm Bell and Darren Cook and never received a response. I contacted Joe again to chase up the money and he said it had been processed.

I would never purchase a car from here again. I have contacted the branch over 20 times for various different reasons and have never had such a poor experience with a car dealership. No post deal calls etc or advice on how to claim the free MOT they offer.

Do not use!

DO NOT BUY FROM HERE!
I bought an Audi Q5 from here in November within 1000 miles the car needed an oil change and service which Finlay has assured me was done It also required 2 new rear tyres. I had to continually chase Finlay for a reply which he has stopped doing now, no reply from an email in February and no reply from a follow up email in April, even after phoning the garage and being assured they would get back to me in email I had to send another!
They have offered zero explanations or apologies or even attempted to resolve the problem!

Please avoid purchasing from here at all costs. My experience of their customer service has been so poor. two years later and I have had no V5 form which has left my car untaxed and I am unable to drive it. I was assured this was all taken care of at the time of purchase, this was certainly not the case. Nobody ever phones you back , extremely poor customer service

Smooth,easy & pleasant experience…

Smooth,easy & pleasant experience buying my new car from these guys!! Saw it online & Ryan Law got in touch with a detailed video of the car,No hard sell & no problems when I declined the extras,Ryan dealt with everything quickly & smoothly from start to finish,Only one thing that irked me was the £149 hidden admin fees I brought this up with them & in my opinion should of been added to the price displayed on the car,I picked my car up within a few days signed & sealed hassle free,Delighted with my purchase & the service!!!

£149 Admin Fee on all used cars added to price.

So the window price on a car and the website is not the actual price. There is a £149 charge for HP check and checking over the car. Thats why I go to a dealer and pay an inflated price already. If every car has this "Admin Fee" then it should be reflected in the price on the car.
Also you salesman was less than honest about the vahicle in question. Glad I walked away.

John Clark Perth great experience

From the minute I arrived at the Perth dealership it just felt right and from start to finish the young salesman I dealt with made the deal perfect a credit to his company, he was very knowledgeable, polite and superbly professional thanks Ryan Law for a faultless and very pleasurable experience top marks young man.Would not hesitate to use again and would definitely deal with Ryan again, absolutely hassle free.
