Really enjoyable buying experience!

I took the plunge on buying a suit online from Rich at The British Tweed Company, with some trepidation. I have had several suits made, but usually the traditional way with a first and second fitting. So buying online felt slightly unusual. But the attention to detail from Rich and the passion he clearly has for his business made this a great experience. The communication was good and lots of detail was requested and provided - as you would expect / hope for. I am really pleased with the finished product - better than I had expected. The fit is really good and the attention to detail on the suit is great. I got good advice on the main cloth and the lining, as well as other parts of the detailing. I have had several compliments and was very glad of a good tweed suit on a business trip to a very chilly London in November!!

Having lived in Asia for over 10 years now, I am a big fan of and believer in buying British. So getting a suit made from British tweed cloth and also sewn in Britain, is very enjoyable.

Separately having read some of the other comments, I think some folk may be being a little unrealistic. If you are going to get a suit made then you need to allow time. To expect something within (eg) a couple of weeks is just not realistic when buying tailoring. So if you are going to get a suit made, give yourself (and Rich) a decent amount of time!

I want another already. Quality 10/10

Ordering a suit from That British Tweed Company has by far been one of my favourite purchases to date. While shopping for a suit for my wedding on Etsy, I stumbled across this company listings. After talking with Rich, I decided to pull the trigger and try ordering a suit offline, knowing the gamble of not being able to try it on before buying. However, after several correspondences talking about preferences, how to correctly measure myself to ensure a good fit, and some oddities I wanted, I was delighted with a package in the mail a month later. The suit came on a hangar in a garment bag alongside a vintage magazine inside a custom box made to look like a suitcase.
The suit itself fits perfectly. Since this isn't a custom-tailored or bespoke suit where I would be able to go in for alterations, I had expected some alteration would be needed, however, the suit was almost perfect! Besides being a little tight from the weight I gained over this holiday season, I have not needed to change anything.
For the price (currently $460 and change) I think this suit is a great alternative to something like the JCrew Ludlow suit which sells for a similar price. With both, you inevitably will need alterations, the difference, however, becomes apparent when you need non-standard sizing like myself. Suits made to factory measurements have never fit me well and I can not explain how excited I am to own this suit.
If I could give this store a 6th star I would. If you are looking to order a suit; message Rich. he is always more than happy to talk about how to make your dream into reality.

Update as I reviewed a day ago

Update as I reviewed a day ago. Just to add to what I have already said about this shabby unprofessional company, what I have noticed for those looking to buy from these con artists. Funny how all the good reviews are from overseas mostly America with suits made and so it claims delivered in 3 weeks????? BE WARNED. I'd love to know where this good service is, obviously not for uk customers.

Fantastic suits

I recently purchased 4 suits, the blue herringbone specifically, for my wedding, and could not have been happier with them. The fit and material is stellar, and feels so comfortable and satisfyingly heavy. The vest not having a silk back, but instead being tweed as well is great as well, and just serves to add to the overall look. Rich was nothing but helpful with the entire process, even helping me with some of the fit process and always going out of his way to give me a prompt response, despite the time difference. The details of the suit, and even the little goodies that accompanied them made the entire experience, even just opening up the box, a great one. I could not recommend this company more, both for quality and customer service. The wedding was about a month ago and the amount of compliments I received day of, and even since then because of pictures, is insane, and has made that special day an even better memory. These suits are the real deal.

Bad suit. Worse service.

Do not order from this company!

Family and I ordered suits from here, and without exception each was poorly made. In most cases arms were different lengths from each other, as were trousers - how that is even possible from a 'Quality suit tailors' is beyond me! The waistcoat had been cut wonkily and the fit not as ordered (missing 2 inches off one leg and not the other is not a great look).

To add insult to injury, after weeks of back and forth the company have, even after admitting fault, stopped responding to us and have refused to offer refunds.

Custom Suit for Wedding

I ordered a custom made suit for a wedding that I am a groomsman and I originally provided the wrong measurements. When I reached out to get the suit corrected, I was pleasantly surprised with how helpful and accommodating British Tweed was with my issue. They quickly sent me a completely new suit that fit perfectly and I couldn’t be happier with the purchase and the entire process. I would recommend them to friends and family for future purchases.

Stay far away

Stay far away. It's not a quality organization. If you have any problems with their custom made suits, you will not be able to get any help or seek a return or refund. In my experience I had several issues (fit, finish quality, and missing tags), their solution was to offer me 30% off my next purchase. Unacceptable.

If you love their suits, though, and really want a look they have. Google "tailormade suits Store Ali Express". You might find a store on AliExpress selling custom suits that look suspiciously like the ones TBTC sells, except tweed isn't shoehorned into every suit name. Food for thought.

Great Experience and Awesome Suit

Got this suit as part of a wedding party and I love everything about it. Felt like I was part of the Peaky Blinders. Great customer service, perfect fitting suit and the surprise gifts with it was very unexpected and greatly appreciated.

As pertaining to their customer service, I emailed them and told them I was at a 41, but the only had choices for 40 and 42 for the jacket. They said not problem and to put it in the notes and they would get it done free of charge. We had it shipped to the US and it came in about 3 business weeks after I ordered.

Also, extremely reasonable price for a handmade wool suit. Returning customer in the future!

Absolutely shocking customer service

Absolutely shocking customer service. Paid for the express delivery as I required the suit specifically for an event. Not once did they contact me to apologise for any delay, I feel I was mislead by timelines stated. Time and time again they refused to refund me stating that they could not refund me. After a series of emails stating that I would initiate county court proceedings to recover the money they finally informed me that they would refund me....... NO REFUND....... I therefore had to inform them that I would start proceedings that day against the MD. it was only at that point that I finally received the refund. Having transaction dates it is obvious and factual that when they informed me of a refund in the first instance this was not the case, in fact I would go so far as to say they lied to me. I have kept all emails and am more than happy to provide their customer service responses on this site.
Shocking service from them, no information, no apologies, I was lied to on more than one occasion (can provide evidence from emails), this company has caused me a great deal of stress and anxiety! This is the first time I have EVER written a bad review on anyone, but I feel obliged to add to the very long list of unhappy customers.
My fault, I didn’t do my due diligence on this company, I was fooled by their website. Make sure you do you due diligence and stay away from this company.

Wedding success

Ive just returned from the wedding at which I wore my British tweed company suit. The groom had asked for navy blue suits, Navy tweed looked superb next to all the others. It arrived after 17 working days with a week to spare. The extra 1” on the sleeves and other ‘bespoke’ options worked out for me. I have to use a uniform jacket every day but I got measured anyway and just ordered those sizes. The fit and feel of the suit is really good, it’s so much better than my work jacket. I’d definitely order another one.

If it was possible I would give zero…

If it was possible I would give zero stars!

I ordered a suit and paid extra for the two week delivery time. After two weeks had passed I emailed the company with no response and tried to call multiple times but the number given on their site was not recognised.

After 3 weeks and still no suit I tried phoning again and still could not get through. I emailed the company telling them to cancel the order and that I wanted a refund, still no response.

I then contacted paypal and 4 weeks later a suit arrived. I still could not get in touch with That British Tweed Company and Paypal told me I would need to bring the dispute to my bank.

Disgraceful company in every possible aspect.

In response to That British Tweed Company..........

Thinking that it is okay to take an extra week after paying £50 for expedited delivery pretty much sums up the service of the company. I would also like to add that it was not a "tailored" suit as the only measurements I gave were the chest and inside leg, so basically an off the rack/shelf suit.

For you to suggest that someone never order a suit if it was required within two weeks would require you to have a functioning phone number and/or respond to emails or messages. All of which you did not do despite me sending multiple emails and messages using the service on your website and trying to phone multiple times. It is nice to see that you do respond to some messages, just a pity they have to be on Trustpilot when it is too late.

Reply from That British Tweed Company

Hi Allan,

Sorry you had such a bad experience, let me address a few points. Firstly you did not pay for two week delivery time, there is no such thing. You paid for priority order, which as stated clearly on the website is 14 WORKING days AVERAGE. Average means it could be a few days less or a few days more, and priority, again as clearly stated throughout the site, means we prioritise the order over other similar orders. Nowhere on the site at all does it say we guarantee a 14 day delivery. Four weeks is 20 working dayy, one week longer that the time in days quoted as "average". I really don't think that's out of the realms of expected times for a completely hand made from scratch suit, especially given certain things are out of our control like fabric suppliers and couriers.

If I knew you absolutely 100% needed a suit within only 2 weeks, I would never suggest anybody order a handmade to order suit online, at least leave time for alterations, its insanity.

Never ceases to amaze

I can honestly say I’ve never met a business that cares for their clients and works so hard to see their customers satisfied as Rich does and That British Tweed Company! I honestly feel that the business is so great and strong it should possibly be a franchise! I returned after my wedding thanking Richard for all his hard work he did to get me and my crew their suits for my wedding day! The suits were everything I needed them to be and envisioned they would be! When I returned and bought my new suit Richard kept me informed about what was happening with the suits and made himself completely transparent. It’s easy to see his heart and passion when it comes to his suits. I was so glad to be getting my second suit and it fits like a glove! I promised I’d be returning and he’s made me a loyal customer and I will be buying most, if not all, my suits from That British Tweed Company!!

And I also feel like it needs to be said. Rich cares. Truly. I actually went to a tailor first to get my sizes down and correct. I didn’t want to take a chance of messing up- not for my wedding and not after. I wanted an English cut suit with English elements and that old 1920’s feel that is damn near impossible to get in the states and that’s what I got. It fits like a glove and looks like a dream. I know that there were several issues that were being worked out outside of Rich’s scope but he pushed through, worked hard, and delivered exactly what he said he would.

It made me smile to see that yellow tweed box with the post card, the notes on my measurements on a sheet of paper for accuracies, the suit cover and overall feel. It’s all so exciting and great. Don’t listen to the naysayers. Do yourself a favor and get your fittings done at a tailor for what’s being asked and then send that information to Richard. You won’t regret it. When I wear this suit I feel like I’m in the 1920’s and that’s the closest I can get to that experience wearing these amazing suits. I can’t wait to wear it when it gets colder outside too!!

Cheers!

DO NOT RUIN YOUR WEDDING BY PURCHASING…

DO NOT RUIN YOUR WEDDING BY PURCHASING YOUR SUITS FROM THIS SHAMBLE OF A COMPANY

We came across this company online and reading through there reviews we thought they seemed very legit, obviously you get the odd bad review here and there.

We ordered our tailor made suits sent off our precise measurements then the following day we realised we had not ordered our little page boy his waistcoat - we have been told this was do able prior to the order, so we emailed Rich asking how we order this as there was not an option on the website.

weeks later , 10 plus email and multiple phone calls we had no response.

I then rang one more time to find that the phone line had been disconnected - this immediately rang alarm bells we froze the payment on our credit card and again sent Rich another email to inform him that we had frozen the payment as he has left us no other choice but to cancel our order.

3 weeks later we receive an email informing us that there has been staffing issues and did we still need help with the page boys waistcoat ? We then emailed again stating we had cancelled this order after zero communication leaving possibly suitless for our wedding. No response what's so ever relating to our issues but later that afternoon a email from Rich to say our suits were being sent out that day and would be with us in a few days.

We then received the suits last Monday and I know we should not of expected great things after the service we received but the suits were in no way what so ever made to the measurements supplied. My husband to be and his brother had crop top waist coats and tents as jackets. These are both the same region so you would expect the measurements to be similar atleast but no. The other groomsmen suits were either baggy or tight none were made to the measurements supplied !!!

We are getting married in 20 days, we are £1400 down and suitless as every company we go to say it is too short notice.

I am not one for reviews but I would hate for others to go through me and my husband to be have gone through!
It is suppose to be a happy time and because of That British Tweed company it has been an absolute nightmare !

Rich I would suggest you reply to our multiple emails and arrange a refund or I will be contacting the other bad reviews and following through with our fake britian claim

Thanks

update:

update:
This interaction was settled in a paypal dispute after failing to respond to any requests. In the dispute That British Tweed Company did initially offer to remake trousers, but then failed to follow up after that point. Paypal stepped in and refunded the full cost of the suit.

They are inaccurate in their response below about the photos. The suit was made beyond skin tight to the measurements they observed in the submitted photos.

Ended up visiting Slaters for an excellent three piece tweed suit for half the price, with free tailoring and excellent customer service. They were very understanding of the limited timeline caused by the other seller. 5 stars to them.
