Fantastic Idea

We love our all in one waste box. I was a bit worried at first about the cost, but actually it took us about 6 months to fill the medium sized box and it's diverted a lot of items we would otherwise have had to throw away.

More importantly, it was a super easy service to use. Again I was worried I'd have to drag the box all the way to the post office, but it was really easy to request a pickup from UPS and they came and collected the box the next day.

Would recommend to everyone!

I use 2 different types of zerowaste box, which greatly reassures me that I can avoid landfill whilst a) being on a strict diet (the plastic packaging from my total meal replacement diet just depressed me utterly until I realised I could zero-waste it), and b) have my coffee capsules properly dealt with.
The boxes sit in a corner until full, then it is easy to arrange pickup.

it's a great idea in principle

it's a great idea in principle, however we make up 100 medicine blister packs a week, so this size of box gets filled in about a day. That makes it a *really* expensive service.

Good morning,

Thank you for your feedback, we're happy to hear you're recycling such a large quantity of blister packs using Zero Waste Box. The boxes are on the pricier side because we're recycling waste streams that aren't currently recyclable through local councils / kerbside recycling. The price of the box includes the entire recycling process of the blister packs. If you get the biggest box size, you might be able to fit more blister packs in by pushing them down.

We do hope you keep recycling your blister packs with us and we welcome any further feedback.
Thanks - The Zero Waste Box team

Love the concept.

We adore the concept of being able to recycle more and are willing to pay to do so. We chose the plastic packaging box. Ordering was easy and communication regarding delivery was excellent.

The box is smaller than we thought, we intend to squeeze as much plastic packaging as we can in there to be recycled but can’t help but feel that the value for money isn’t quite there for us. We shall see how long the box lasts before it’s crammed full.

Being put to good use

Being put to good use. To lower the cost, could the local councils/ Government offer subsidies or similar, particularly as there should be less waste going to landfill, which, long term, could be an economic incentive as well as a green one.

Wanted to give this 5 but ...polystyrene?

Wanted to give this 5 as it's such an important service and very easy to use but agreed with the comments that it's
- prohibitively expensive
- arrives in a plastic bag
also read that one of the products made from the ground down/sized reduced plastic by 3rd party processers is polystyrene? If this is the case, the service is redundant as it's diverting plastic going into landfill at this stage only to be turned into a non-recylable material one stage after that will then go into landfill
Please can terracyle list here all of the materials/products that collected plastics are turned into by the 3rd party processers
Many thanks

Good afternoon,

Thank you for your email. We cannot provide an exhaustive list of products that our materials are turned into as there can be hundreds of applications through injection molding and thermoforming.

TerraCycle works with brands & processors to collect, aggregate and prepare for recycling in a usable format to manufacture new products. There are hundreds of applications for recycled plastic and this is becoming more usable because of demand for recycled material and as an alternative to virgin material, thus saving valuable natural resources. The amount of energy used to make a product from recycled material is a lot less than the carbon footprint for virgin materials.

FYI - the bag the ZWB comes in will be recycled with us as well if you just add it back to the box.

I do hope this answers your questions :) Have a lovely day - The Zero Waste Box team.

Good idea but too expensive

Such a brilliant idea, but alas I won't be repeating it as I simply cannot afford to 'buy' the box every time, though I understand that there are costs in the recycling process. If it could be an exchange of boxes, or even a percentage reduction in the box cost every time it's sent back, I might consider it.

Good afternoon,

Thank you very much for the feedback and we're sorry to hear the boxes are too pricy for you. Zero Waste Boxes provide solutions for waste that cannot be recycled through your local council or traditional recycling companies. Zero Waste Boxes are a solution for when we don’t have a Free Recycling Programme for a particular type of waste, and the price per box consists of the transport, storage and recycling process costs.

However, TerraCycle Free Recycling Programmes are funded by brands, manufacturers, and retailers to help you collect and recycle your hard-to-recycle waste. As an alternative solution, you could check if there are any Recycling Programmes you'd be interested in joining (https://www.terracycle.com/en-GB/brigades).

Recycling the impossible

I´m very pleased with it and it makes me feel better that I can use my Zero Waste Box to recycle those little things that I feel very guilty throwing away. Because it is so expensive for a average household, I try to minimise its use, meaning that I try to recycle it in other possible ways before I resort to put it in the Zero Waste Box to make it last longer.

Good afternoon,

Thank you for your review, we appreciate the feedback. Zero Waste Boxes allow to recycle a multiplicity of waste that is not managed by traditional recycling companies. The cost of the box includes the outbound shipping of the box to you, the return shipping to our recycling warehouse and the entire recycling process. Unfortunately recycling is, as for now, costly. We hope this justifies the price a little.

Don't hesitate to contact customersupport@terracycle.co.uk with any further questions.

Have a wonderful week and Happy New Year,

All-in-one boxes - strongly recommend!

Been using the all-in-one boxes for over a year now - extremely convenient and easy to use, the boxes hold a lot of the extra plastic etc stuff that otherwise would go in the rubbish - massive reduction in amount of rubbish generated, and boxes last for quite awhile - even though upfront cost looks high, on a per-day cost it's less than a daily Starbucks. Highly recommend!

I am a big fan of Terracycle.

I am a big fan of Terracycle.
I love recycling, but some things can't go to ebay, charity shops or ordinary recycling.
Some people Ive told have balked at the price of Zero Waste boxes, but I think its money well spent.
I have used the Toys, Pet Food Sachets and Storage Media Zero Waste boxes.
They fit plenty into them and the postage back is free...you just need to find a UPS drop off point and then its easy.
More Terracycling is planned in 2022 for me!

I would love to know where and how the plastic is recycled: and if pyrolysis is ever considered.
It would be interesting to know why the service is so expensive, as it must deter many people who simply cannot afford to pay so much.

Good afternoon,

Thank you for your review and for your question. The service is costly because it includes the storage and recycling process for materials that are not typically accepted by traditional municipal recycling programs. Pyrolysis is never considered - TerraCycle's R&D team analyzes the waste materials to determine the right way to process it into new materials. TerraCycle avoids waste-to-energy and never uses it as an end-of-life solution for anything that we guarantee to be recycled.

Plastics are the largest category of material we collect through our programmes. These materials are size-reduced (made smaller by being shredded or ground), then melted and reformatted into pellets, flakes, or a powder format. These are then sent to third-party processing partners that recycle the materials into usable forms.

I hope this helps. Don't hesitate to get in touch with our customer service team for any further questions.

Great service & pleased to support…

Great service & pleased to support recycling of 'non- recyclable' plastics. Easy to order and very efficient delivery.
Not keen on large plastic bag used for delivery but I do continue to use that for various tasks.
It would be good if any companies could subsidize the price of boxes to support more people to be able to afford to use them?

Great idea - shame about the cost.

Zero waste boxes are a great idea - as long as you can afford them! I understand why recycling such tricky items is a costly process but it does make it an impractical choice for many. I know there are locations where organisations also offer the Terracycle recycling facility but the two I have used have had to stop, one because the terms and conditions had changed so it was no longer worth their while and I do not know the reason for the other. As these were both charities this seems a great shame. Now I have to travel to various locations if I want to recycle specific items - it's lucky I can afford an EV so my journey has negligible impact on the environment. Again, not many people are as lucky as me.
