Nausea from food intolerance
We would like to thank Prof Thomson for his care this year. We have had a tough journey and his thorough assessment and work with other MDT professionals have helped us to get answers and move forward. We are 6 months into an aggressive food elimination diet and we see a happier child that has now put on weight. He has been a great support and also referred on to other trusted professionals for further support. We have had video calls during COVID that have been great and allowed to have regular contact and he has always responded to any questions I may have. Thank you.

5 star care
Only just come across this page, Prof Thompson took began seeing my son aged 2 when we were at our wits end trying to work out what was wrong, he phoned me personally, reassured me we would get to the bottom of it and within 2 weeks he had him in for an endoscopy, diagnosed and began treatment, he turned our lives around! 9 years on my son is happy, doing well and sees Prof Thompson every 3-6 mth, I couldn’t be happier with the care he receives.
Prof Thomson is a wonderful Dr
Prof Thomson is a wonderful, kind Dr who genuinely wants to help people. He spent time fully understanding my daughters symptoms, did the necessary tests to find out the facts before putting her on a medication that works for her. I have always felt I can contact him if we had any issues between appointments. I would highly recommend Professor Thomson.

Excellent Gastroenterologist
Excellent Gastroenterologist! Our son was experiencing constipation and acid reflux, causing him a lot of discomfort. We were thrilled that Prof Thomson treatment protocol was a success and has hugely improved our sons quality of life. Prod Thomson was also a lovely person to speak with, and we are so grateful.

Brilliant consultant.
Brilliant consultant.
My daughter and son have both seen prof Tomson on different occasions. With the right treatment of medication and milk and advice we saw such an improvement. Professional at all times and very friendly. He also put my children at easy and made my daughter laugh. I would highly recommend and cannot thank him enough.

The relief we felt after seeing Prof Thomson was amazing. My teenage daughter was so much happier after seeing him and had faith in him helping to sort out her GERD. The most reassuring thing was after our second visit he felt we did not need to see him again but if we do there is an open door and a plan B.
Thankyou.
We just had a great experience with…
We just had a great experience with Prof Thomson. We saw three different private Pediatric Gastroenterologists and he was the best. His manner is very reassuring, but he is also very good at what he does and quickly understands the issues. I would wholeheartedly recommend him.
Brilliant consultant - can’t recommend enough
Brilliant consultant. Fantastic PA team around him. My son was chronically constipated, miserable and displaying aggressive behaviours. Following multiple GP visits, and endless waiting lists for NHS appointments, we decided to go private. After only a few visits to Prof.T. and a complete change in medication we saw our son coming back to us. 6 months on, we are a changed family and my son is the happy little boy he should be. I can’t thank Prof Thomson enough. We aren’t rich, we made cut backs elsewhere to go private, and it was the best money we have ever spent. Thoroughly recommend to others.
Quick diagnosis
Professor Thomson diagnosed my son's issue on his first appointment and prescribed the necessary medication and home care. Six weeks after following his treatment plan, my son's discomfort has gone. This was a great result after going round the houses with other doctors for the previous six months. Professor Thomson was very professional but friendly at the same time. I found his bedside manner with my four year old son was spot on. Additionally, his secretary, Kate, is highly organised and I received answers to my queries on the same day. I would highly recommend Professor Thomson.
Professor Thomson is an exceptional…
Professor Thomson is an exceptional consultant and we cannot thank him enough for his support and guidance through a fairly awful time. We moved to Hong Kong 3 years ago and last year my son (11 years old) was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. Given that this disease is fairly rare in Asia, we took our son to Professor Thomson for a second opinion where he confirmed the UC diagnosis. After we returned to HK, we kept in contact with Professor Thomson and he responded very quickly with any questions we had or just to validate the approach or any change in strategy our doctors in Hong Kong were making. It became fairly obvious over time that our son had a fairly aggressive and extensive form of UC that was difficult to control with any form of medication (and we tried everything including most of the imab drugs). His flare up would simply not go into remission. We eventually made the decision on a late night phone conference call with Professor Thomson and our doctors in Hong Kong to have him transferred to the UK. Professor Thomson engaged his extensive network to secure a brilliant surgeon at short notice and we had him admitted to Great Ormond St where he had an ileostomy. Since then, our son's life has changed dramatically for the better and he is back to his usual self and playing sport without the anxiety and pain that UC causes. Bizarrely his ileostomy bag seems to have given him more confidence and he challenges himself more as he is adamant it will not change his life. Professor Thomson is professional (and can be very business like on occasion :-)), responsive, supportive, highly competent, practical with an innate understanding of his field. We felt lucky to have his advice, guidance and experience through this. I can say this not only from myself and my husband but on behalf of my son. Professor Thomson took the time to make sure all his questions were answered too giving our son confidence and reassurance during this stressful time. We cannot recommend him highly enough.
I would also like to mention and thank Kate (and Michelle when Kate was away) who were supremely efficient and organised supporting us through is entire journey and helping us when we were in Hong Kong. Kate always knew exactly who we were and latest status when we called which was most reassuring!

We only have glowing praise for our experience with an empathetic and reassuring doctor who sorted my son out without the need - so far at least - for invasive procedures. Took a cautious approach but was able to see us at very short notice during a very stressful time and so so impressed and grateful. Have also only had positive experiences with his PA Kate despite the vicious review below!
My daughter had an endoscopy with…
My daughter had an endoscopy with Professor Thomson last year. Due to me being very ill over the last year and being out of the country I had missed the payment due to Mr Thomson. As nobody tried to contact me to discuss via telephone this resulted in Kate King, practical manager, issuing a debt collector. I straight away offered to pay the payment in full but this was declined by Kate King. I questioned the debt collectors paperwork and his website claiming he was FCA registered to later find out he wasn't. I was horrified by the choice in debt collector and his harassment and bullying after I asked if he was genuine.
8 days later he issued court proceeding. This is acting in breech of the pre action claims protocol, but I have now discovered he has issued them in my daughters name again with the wrong details.
When my husband called the debt collector to sort a payment out he was told" he had brought the debt for a penny and had a disability as Hitler dropped a bomb on his house!" Baffled by this companies continuous mistakes and bizarre attitude, I fail to understand how an eminent person such as professor Thomson can be involved with a debt collector who has shown absolutely no consistency with his approach. This all could have been avoided with more communication.
thank you
After being ignored by nhs doctors for 2 years I took my daughter to professor Thomson as my last hope. My child has very complex health but Prof Thomson started from the beginning and gave me all the time on the world to explain. He found things the nhs has missed for years. Unfortunately the work she needs done is a lot so Prof Thomson is helping to try and get it done via the nhs. The service from everyone is amazing. It’s exactly how the health services should be. Thank you to Prof Thomson for being our hope.
Prof.Thomson gave a new life to our daughter thanks to his expertise
During the early months of 2018 our 9 year old daughter was every evening complaining of chest pains. We thought it's an excuse of not wanting to sleep on her own. Then on the 19th of May of 2018 whilst we were attending an event our daughter felt herself in severe pain so much that we had to take her to hospital. The doctors there thought it was a virus and recommended medicines they felt appropriate but her pains continued. Then we took her to our own paediatrician and immediately suspected it's acid related and prescribed anti acid medicine. Pains continued and he thought she must have the H.Pylori bacteria and prescribed 3 different antibiotics which made her pain unbearable to a point that we even had to take her several times to hospital and they prescribed some quick antacids which calmed her down. Our paediatrician suggested an endoscopy but there wasn't a paediatric gastroenterologist available so a paediatric surgeon did the endoscopy and results showed there was nothing to worry about. Her pains continued and we took her to a nutritionist who said that results showed she is coeliac and allergic to cow's milk eggs and gluten. We changed her diet and saw some improvement but still her pains continued and spent days in severe pain and was also missing school for days and weeks. In the absence of a paediatric gastroenterologist in our country we asked our consultant that we feel she should be referred to a paediatric gastroenterologist but we were told if there was this need she would have been referred no need for our advice and that she has nothing!!!!! Hearing this we had no option but to take our daughter to a paediatric gastroenterologist ourselves!. Back in 2017 I needed a paediatric gastroenterologist to get advice about my son who had a similar but on a smaller scale situation. After several research I came across Prof.Thomson and immediately was convinced that he is the person we need. I visited him in London and a simple alteration to our son's medicines made all the difference. So in the case of our daughter Prof.Thomson was our ray of light in a tunnel full of darkness! I contacted Kate his assistant and after explaining to her our daughter's situation, she asked Prof.Thomson and he suggested an endoscopy and PH study. On Easter weekend she was so much in pain that I immediately booked his services the following Monday as this problem was turning into a crisis. We needed to have 4 full consecutive days to have an endoscopy and a ph study so Kate was very helpful and patient to help me find an appointment which was good for everyone and got all the paperwork ready. Visiting the Great Portland Hospital is an example of how things should be done where organisation and efficiency are at their highest. The hospital is spotlessly clean and at par with a 5 star hotel and staff go out of their way to help and reassure you that everything will be fine. After a few days of completing the PH study and returning home, Prof.Thomson issued his report and found the cause of her pains. His recommendations worked right in the heart of the cause of her pains mainly eliminating cow's milk and a different way to administer her medicines. Such fine details were unnoticed by other doctors yet Prof.Thomson being a specialist, an expert, specialising in nutrition and a leader in his field where he also trains other paediatric gastroenterologists, makes all these qualities work in conjunction together to help him to pinpoint the cause of pain in no time in so many children including our daughter. We cannot but repeatedly thank Prof Thomson himself and Kate and Michelle his assistants for their work which they do from the ir hearts in the interests of the wellbeing of our young sons and daughters. Being from outside the UK it was a tough decision to travel all the way but now I say I wish we took this decision last year as we would have saved our daughter 1 year of pain and unnecessary trial and error treatment. For all parents passing through gastroenterology difficulties in their children I tell them to look no further and take them to the right people like Prof.Thomson who know what to do and not treat them with trial and error. Thank You everyone again.
EXCEPTIONAL paed gatroenterologist!
My daughter (17) was recently treated by Prof Thompson, after she suddenly developed severe nausea and vomiting. She was rapidly losing weight and previous doctors had been unable to explain her symptoms.
While Prof Thompson is business-like and matter of fact, you are in no doubt of his intelligence, expertise or competence; he is very methodical and thoughtful in his investigations, leaving no stone unturned in the search for a diagnosis. He did not dismiss any suggestions from us as to a cause and was willing to contemplate any theories, however unusual. Most importantly, he assured us that he would not give up on my daughter until he found the cause, and that hope sustained us through a very worrying time.
Prof Thompson went out of his way to see us at short notice and his wonderful PAs (Kate and Michelle) were always available to reassure us, pass on messages or help us get other medical appointments. In fact, Prof Thompson used his considerable network to get us an accelerated appointment at the Hospital of Tropical Diseases, which is extremely difficult to do.
Prof Thompson and his team are extremely organised; comprehensive follow-up letters to all of my daughters' medical team were sent immediately so that everyone was aware of the investigations. At every step of the way he was confident of the Plan A, as well as Plan B and C - so that we never felt that he or we were floundering.
My daughter is now well on the way to recovery, with a clear diagnosis (severe gluten intolerance) and we are learning to live with a new regime.
I would recommend Prof Thompson without reservations - he will save your child, and save you and your family in the process!

Prof Thomson recently treated our 13 year old daughter after she had been suffering from stomach pains for 8 months. We had been seeing another GE doc who had tried lots of tests and medication but we were then referred to Prof Thomson for a gastroscopy and ph study which confirmed our suspicions that she was suffering from Nurofen damage to her stomach. He was very thorough and reassuring and we had every faith that he would be able to finally diagnose what was causing all the pain and make a plan to make our daughter better. His personal assistants were also very helpful and efficient with sorting appointments and any queries. Really pleased that my daughter received such great care and hoping that she will now be on the road to recovery thanks to Prof Thomson.

Outstanding! Prof. Mike was reassuring and just wonderful with our daughter. We came away from our first meeting so much happier and we felt in excellent hands. Thanks
Best gastroenterologist in the business !
My daughter saw Professor Thomson last year having had severe cramps. He found Helicobacter and treated it accordingly. This year, she had similar cramps and after we tested for Helicobacter at our local GP, we were told there was no Helicobacter. So we arranged to see Professor Thomson and having listened to all the symptoms and where we went on holiday (where the symptoms started), he had a suspicion that she may have Giardia which he also informed us that in 80% of cases is unscreened even if you test for it. My daughter started on the antibiotics on Wednesday and for the first time in 3 weeks told me on Friday morning that her stomach now feels better.
Before writing this review, I read some of the reviews below and cannot believe anyone who gave him a 1 star. You want the doctor treating your child to be totally confident in what he says and to hopefully 'know it all' and that is what gives you the comfort to know that you are in the best hands for the safety of your child.
I would highly recommend Professor Thomson to anyone...in fact I would say that you should only go to Professor Thomson if your child has persistent stomach issues. He has fixed my daughter twice in 2 years and has a great bedside manner about him.
Regards,
Christian

This is our second occasion visiting Professor Thomson; the first time was 10years ago when my son had reflux. This time around for a separate situation.
Prof. Thomson is a pioneer in his field and gives us parents comfort, by genuinely caring about his role and specialised field. He has given us answers when we thought we were going crazy, and is super thorough with his work, never leaving any stone unturned.
I highly recommend him to any family.

We went to see Professor Thomson after a few months of contradictory GP advice, and he diagnosed during the first consultation what the problem was. He prescribed my son the relevant medicine and within 2 weeks, he felt so much better. He is really kind and gentle with my son, who was a bit reluctant to see another doctor after the previous ones failed to explain what was happening.
