Incredibly grateful to Prof Thomson and his team
My son was 7.5months old and was suffering from discomfort and bloating. He would regularly be up 4/5 times a night in pain. I had been to see the GP numerous times to no avail. I was so relieved and thankful to finally meet Prof Thomson, who diagnosed my son within minutes. Within a week I had a different, thriving baby who now wakes up once during the night. I am so thankful.
Prof Thomson has saved us twice now!
We were struggling with our 12 week old with GORD having been through many dismissals and various treatment trials. We were finally referred to Professor Thomson by a paediatrician in Oxford... Professor Thomson sorted him out within a few weeks and It was amazing to see our little one flourish and smile for the first time!
We are now sadly dealing with this horrible condition again with our daughter - even worse this time. I'm afraid I'm that Mum that emails his secretaries much too frequently but they and Professor Thomson are always patient and understanding and always take the time to reassure me and ensure I understand what is happening at each step.
To summarise Professor Thomson is not only professional and extremely knowledgable he is also caring and empathetic. I cannot recommend him enough!
When others were sceptical...
We immediately felt in safe hands with Professor Thomson who had the perfect interaction with my 15 year old daughter who had been suffering with a variety of symptoms for many months. His exceptional care & genuine interest also encompassed my concerns and we did not feel rushed as he documented every symptom and then explained his plan to 'cover all bases.' As a result he referred my daughter to 2 further consultants & we now have a clear plan of how to manage her diagnosis when others were sceptical. We cannot thank him enough - a special man.
Extremely caring
Professor Thomson is absolutely incredible. He has provided us with great information and treatment for our 2 month old daughter who has had reflux since she was born. He has good treatment plans and provided us with extra reassurance outside of appointments when we really needed it too.
All the other staff at The Portland are excellent too.
We wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone. And look forward to our next review with him!
Could not recommend Mike highly enough
Professor Thomson has been the best, most thorough, most thoughtful Doctor we have ever seen and I can't recommend him highly enough. We met Mike at the Portland Hospital in London where he assessed my then 10 month old daughter. His report was incredibly thorough, and brought things to our attention we hadn't been aware of. As a direct result of his comments, my daughter has received the correct care and has improved beyond recognition. His report continues to be helpful for the specialist who are now investigating the possibility of a genetic syndrome, and I have no doubt that without Mike's report we would have continued to be struggling in the dark.
Excellent Paediatric Consultant
My daughter was suffering for some weeks with gastro related pain. It was awful to see her in such pain, her appetite was poor and consequently she'd lost a lot of weight. We saw our GP but things move slowly and the medication wasn't helping at all. Professor Thomson organised all the investigative tests immediately and was able to get to the heart of the matter and sort out my daughter's health issues really quickly and efficiently. Thank you so much!

Fantastic
Nothing but positive things to say about Prof Thomson. After having atorrid time with NHS doctors not taking on board what we said it was so refreshing to finally be listened to and be spoken to in a non judgemental way. Our daughter is now so much happier, pain free and medication free thanks to his expertise.
We would recommend him time and time again.
Professor Mike Thomson
Professor Thomson is a real gentleman with a very pleasant and calm nature. He is of course extremely professional and knowledgeable in his field and leaves no stone unturned in the investigative process.
He has a great team of dedicated and friendly staff at The Portland Hospital, including a wonderful secretary who is always prepared to answer my queries without delay. My daughter has had a very positive experience under the care of Professor Thomson and I strongly recommend his services.
Excellent appointment
After weeks of trying to figure out what was wrong with my son, I think we are on our way to having some answers
Life Saver!
My son was admitted in local hospital in Cardiff for couple of months and was not getting better at all; these were most stressful times ever for us! We have ended up taking a second opinion which was the best decision we have made. We simply contacted his secretory and informed about our son's condition and got a return phone call from Prof. Thomson himself to discuss about the case and the possible treatments. He was happy to take the case just after telephonic discussion which was a real surprise and a big relief for us. Then, we went to Sheffield Children Hapital for the treatment. We were sure that our son will be in safe hands and we were 100% right. Finally our son is out of the hospital and recovering now.

He was the first one to listen and help us
Last February we got a second opinion from Mike, we had a 30 minute consultation in which he finally put down in black and white what I had know about my daughter for the 4 years of her life, He agreed to do all the base line test and finally we had the answers we had been looking for. We are now a year on from the test and my daughter is going from strength to strength and we finally had the answers.
First appointment with really knowledgeable expert on GORD
We were struggling as parents to get proper care and advice for our little son who's suffering from GORD and CMPA since he was 1 day old but not diagnosed till over 2 week regardless various issues with feeding. After over 10 months of being either fob off with random medication prescribed or being given contradictory advice on GORD management we decided to take our son privately to Prof Thomson. We were amazed by his professionalism and knowledge. He knew straight away what to do. He also had great attitude towards our baby. We can happily recommended him to any parent of child with GORD.
Only wish I had have seen him sooner!
We have recently had our first child and after a few weeks of her not sleeping/eating properly and looking in pain we consulated our GP. We were basically told we were new parents being overly worried. It became apparent that this wasn't normal for a new born baby and on looking online we felt our daughter had silent reflux and we went back to the GP. After being fobbed off by our GP with Colic and us being overly worried new parents ( 5 appointments with GP in total ) we looked on line to see a private consultant. We luckly came across Professor Thomson and booked to see him as soon as possible. Within minutes he knew what the problem was. It was silent reflux which we had mentioned to our GP weeks before. Within 3 days of the prescribed medication we had s completely different baby. It has changed mine and my wife's life so much but more importanrly that of our daughter. Our crying, in pain, unable to eat or sleep daughter now loves her food, constantly smiles, sleeps through the night and has colour back in her cheeks. My wife is not battling to feed a unhappy baby and is enjoying every minute of being a new mum. I cannot thank Professor Thomson enough and won't hesitate to see him again if we need him. My only wish is I had gone above my GP earlier.
Healthcare at its best
I can only fully recommend Professor Thomson at the Portland hospital and to any parent worried about their child's wellbeing. I felt all my concerns was taken 100% seriously and all my questions was answered and explained clearly.
AMAZING
Prof Thompson has tranformed out little girl's world. He was fantastic and had such a lovely manner with our daughter. She named him the 'nice doctor!' He referred us to other health professionals that work alongside him and as a team they have sorted out daugher's longstanding problems in months. We cannot thank him enough and would very much recommend him to anyone.
Professor Mike Thomson
The care provided by Professor Thomson and his team was excellent - highly professional, sensitive, prompt and courteous.
Mike made my son better
We visited Mike with my son who had been struggling to gain weight since his birth. After countless visits to the local NHS hospital to see consultants, have emergency assessments and to be admitted; he resolved my son's issues in a single 45 minute appointment.
Mike made us feel listened to, respected as new parents and comfortable that he would help. The team around him conducted themselves with the upmost professionalism.
If you want your child to get better, and for you to feel like good parents than see Professor Thomson.
